Hot Summer Days

Today's post is about a outfit I wore to a small garden party. I was so tempted to just go in a pair of shorts and a vest top because it was so so warm but it was a special occasion so I had to make an effort ( at least pretend)

Got this Topshop dress last year in the sale but I never got around to wear it. It actually came with a little black lace cropped top that you put over the dress but since it was way too hot I thought I'll lose that bit.

I have used these sandals so much this summer. Worn them with jeans, skirts shorts and dresses they go with everything and so comfortable. Sometimes I forget I even have then on because they are so lightweight. I just hope this weather is here to stay because I can wear these more often because I absolutely love them

Dress- Topshop (old)
Long necklace - Miss Selfridge
Short Necklace - Accessorize
Shoes - Primark

If you live in the UK, are you loving this weather??  What do you think about this outfit? what do you consider when dressing for warm weather?

Not Just A Fancy Dress

It's been too long since I last blogged but apart from getting a year older nothing exciting has happened in my life. Same old daily rituals and chores. I have to say though that I had the best birthday ever. Me and a couple of my very close friends went out had way too many cocktails and danced way too many hours, I was still recovering the whole of last week (old age). It's definitely one of the best birthdays I have had in a very very long time.

I had the whole of last weekend off so I got to spend some quality time with family  plus now that summer is finally here we can squeeze in quite a lot of activities into a full day. There's quite a lot of parks and old castles around where I live and we love going there for walks.

So last Sunday we went to Elvaston castle just outside Derby. It was such a beautiful day so I decided to celebrate it by wearing this dress. I'm not much of a dress person and I bought this dress last year or the year before I think from Topshop. I actually bought it for a wedding. The dress was only £18 in sale and I wore it with brown and gold studded heels and a brown little clutch. I must have been the person who spent the least amount of money on the outfit at that wedding. But my outfit didn't really give that away.

I have worn this dress many times after that, mostly casual. It was a bit windy on that day so I put on this cord cropped jacket instead of denim or leather jacket. I'm not too sure where I got this jacket from because I have had it for over 4 years and for some reason I have cut all the labels. It's one of those little jackets that I rely on most in summer. Went for very simple styling with my burgundy Primark satchel and Bershka sandals.

Dress - Topshop (old)
Jacket - Other (old)
Satchel - Primark
Shoes - Bershka (old)
Watch - River Island (shop here)

I'm super excited about the weather because I think we have waited such a long time for some proper sunshine. Growing up in a hot country like Sri Lanka where it's hot 24/7 365 days a year I have never appreciate the sun or the warm weather until I move to England 8 years ago. I just hope it's here to stay, at least for some time. Can't wait to wear more of my summer bits out.

What do you think of this outfit? Done anything nice in the warm weather?

Monochromatic Magic

I'm a massive fan of black! (who isn't?) May be its the ease of styling it or the fact that anything black will pretty much go with anything?? Or because it's so easy to maintain?? I don't know but all I do know is it's the colour that I most tend to turn to. Must admit though that I have got better in the recent years as I have tried my best to stay away from the colour.

Nowadays when I wear black I try to add a pop of colour, it mostly come in the form of accessory. I have not really been a massive fan of jewellery but to say I have been converted won't do justice. Where have I been all these years?? Holed up in a cave?? why I didn't embrace the trend is beyond me! However my preferences have changed because I tend to move a lot towards jewellery with geometric shapes.

Let's move on to the outfit shall we? I've tyried to stay away from the monochrome trend but how long can one resist so I gave in! But instead of a full monochrome look I have added some colour using the tan heels and a bit of neon.

The top is from Zara and its very casual, I have never worn it with anything but jeans. Yet I don't know why I reached for it when actually I was after a shirt to go with this Skater skirt. With the skater skirt I normally tuck the top in but decided against it, which I think actually looks a lot better (thoughts?)

If you really want a pop of colour then go for a neon clutch, which I think would look great with a monochrome outfit.

Top - Zara
Skirt - Topshop
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins
Necklace 1 - Miss Selfridge (neon pop)
Necklace 2 - Topshop
Clutch -Gap

So! what are your thoughts on this outfit? Are you a fan of the ever popular monochrome trend?

Just a Little something

Been awhile!! I have been recovering from the worst form of tonsillitis I have had for a very long time, so haven't really had much time to post. But I have recovered and back to work tomorrow so hopefully my posting will commence.

This outfit post is just a little something I had on when the weather was not very nice as you can see from my flying hair and clothes. I must have worn these Matalan Shorts so many times since I bought them last summer and they are out from the back of my wardrobe again to keep me company this summer. I absolutely love the print and since the shorts are high waisted its also very versatile because you can dress it up or down.

I opted to wear it with this khaki green Gap silk shirt because I like the colour contrast.

I have not taken these wedges off since I bought them. They are not only pretty and affordable but so comfortable. The wedge heel is not very high unlike most of the wedges I have come across, which make them great for everyday use. They are a recent purchase from Primark so I'm sure they are still available in store and there's Black version if your not a massive Tan fan. (Only£16)

Shorts- Matalan
Shirt - Gap
Wedges - Primark (£16)
Bag - Zara
Necklace - Miss Selfridge (£3)

Love me for a reason

Hi all! Hope all is well. I have had a very busy couple of days. Work is never ending and stressful, by the time I get home all I want to do is have a bath, curl up in bed and sleep.

However I did make some time to go around shops and have a look. Because most places start getting new collections around this time. That way it's guaranteed I get all the best bits before weekend madness. I love shopping during the week after work because its less busy and very peaceful in away. No impatient shoppers, no screaming kids, no queues at the till points or fitting rooms and your sure to get some proper help from store staff.

One thing I noticed was the amount of gorgeous statement jewellery available everywhere. I have never been a massive accessory fan because I like to keep things simple. But I'v been converted! I was spoilt for choice. Zara as always was a knock out! Their statement pieces get better by collection, from neon crazy to tribal bling!

Has anyone seen Dorothy Perkins limited edition jewellery?? Pastel heaven!!! They are in stores this week so make sure to have a look. I'm so impressed!!
However Topshop was a massive let down, their jewellery to me is too grunge'y' looking. (I'm not a big Topshop fan anyway). People always think I'm crazy when I say that but they just don't rock my world as much as they used to.

So I did purchase a lovely Zara necklace which I fell in love with instantly (you will see it on the blog soon) I did take some pictures of some of the really pretty necklaces I came across. The quality of the pictures not so great because I had to use my phone and do it very low key, didn't want to get told off by security guards or store staff because some stores are quite scared of people stealing ideas and brand image and all that.

Do you like statement jewellery? What's your favourite place to shop for them?

Enjoy the rest of the week! :-)
